🇲🇦 How Morocco Became a Global Raspberry Export Leader in 2025
🌍 Morocco Sets a New Record in Raspberry Exports
In the 2024/2025 agricultural season, Morocco achieved a historic milestone, exporting 64,400 tons of fresh raspberries and generating $487 million in revenue, according to EastFruit data.
This performance marks a 13.8% growth in export volume compared to the previous season and confirms Morocco’s rise as a global leader in red fruit exports.
Today, raspberries have become Morocco’s second-largest horticultural export after tomatoes, reflecting the country’s long-term vision to position itself among the world’s top agricultural exporters.
Year-Round Supply and Agricultural Resilience
What makes Morocco truly stand out is its ability to supply raspberries nearly year-round, with exports peaking between November and May.
In April 2025, the country reached a record-breaking 10,000 tons exported in a single month, demonstrating both consistency and resilience after years affected by drought.
This year-round export capability allows Moroccan producers to build stronger relationships with European buyers and secure premium prices thanks to continuous market presence.
Top Markets Driving Growth
Moroccan raspberries are conquering Europe. The United Kingdom remains the largest importer, accounting for 30% of total exports, followed by:
• 🇪🇸 Spain – 23.4%
• 🇳🇱 Netherlands – 18.4%
• 🇩🇪 Germany – 13.6%
• 🇫🇷 France – 7.9%
Together, these five markets absorb over 94% of Moroccan raspberry exports.
Since 2023, Morocco has even surpassed Spain to become the UK’s #1 supplier of fresh raspberries, thanks to its consistent quality, optimized logistics, and precise delivery timing.
Expanding Beyond Europe
The Moroccan berry industry isn’t stopping there.
Exports to secondary destinations reached 3,500 tons this season — a 60% increase year-over-year.
New and fast-growing markets include:
• 🇧🇪 Belgium (exports doubled)
• 🇨🇭 Switzerland, 🇦🇹 Austria, 🇷🇴 Romania
• First shipments to Eswatini (Southern Africa)
• Middle Eastern markets: UAE, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, and Jordan.
In total, 26 countries imported Moroccan raspberries in 2024/2025 — an impressive indicator of how far the sector has expanded globally.
Investments Powering the Transformation
This record performance is the result of two decades of strategic development in Morocco’s red fruit industry, mainly across Loukkos, Gharb, and Souss.
Continuous investment in modern packaging centers, cold-chain logistics, and export partnerships has turned Morocco into a competitive global player.
The success also aligns with Morocco’s Green Generation Plan 2020–2030, a national strategy aiming to:
• Diversify agricultural exports
• Increase value-added products
• Strengthen competitiveness in international markets
Looking Ahead: The Future of Moroccan Raspberries
With a solid production base, growing global demand, and continuous market diversification, Moroccan raspberries are on track to remain a strategic export pillar in the coming years.
Beyond being a symbol of agricultural success, they now represent Morocco’s innovation, resilience, and leadership in the world’s fresh produce markets.
